MSCEIT

Emotional Intelligence

The MSCEIT (Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test) was developed by the originators of the psychological theory of Emotional Intelligence, Professors Peter Salovey (Yale University) and Jack Mayer (University of New Hampshire), with their colleague Dr David Caruso (Yale University).

Like IQ tests the MSCEIT assesses ability.

The MSCEIT assesses the respondents ability to be intelligent, and problem solve, with and about emotions in 4 key areas:

  • Recognising emotions,
  • Using emotions to assist thinking,
  • Understanding emotion and
  • Appropriately using emotion to attain effective longer term outcomes.

The tool has been validated and grounded based on 12 years of research.

The MSCEIT is the only current published performance measure of emotional intelligence abilities, and is not a self reporting tool like other EI tests/tools on the market currently.

The MSCEIT is undertaken online at the respondents own speed and convenience. Debriefing of the results of the profile may be undertaken in a private one-one feedback/coaching session.

All participants who undertake the MSCEIT get a comprehensive 40 page written report with examples and guidance on how to improve their particular performance in Emotional Intelligence.
